All meals are prepared in a way to help you carry out all bodily functions optimally and make you shed the excess pounds at the same time. Your muscle tissues tear with each workout and as the tissue builds itself back Preparing and following a nutritious and balanced diet is not as easy as it sounds. I've been on Nutrisystem for about two weeks, I'm down ten pounds. I lost 7lbs already and I'm feeling really great.

By watching what they eat and drink—and reading the labels on all food produce they buy to avoid the worst offending ingredients. I agree you can lose weight without doing any commercial diet program. Common sense is a pretty powerful thing when it's used.
A person's body is their responsibility and if they gain weight, its up to them to actively work of getting back in shape. No one else can do that for you!
Let's clear up a couple of things and make them perfectly clear: Second, the "meals" are microscopic. Go to any nutrition or calorie count site and plug in Nutrisystem Meals. When the calories in a meal are in the — range, you're not going to have to chew very long to devour the whole thing. Cut your calories to per day. If you can read and if you can add, then it' simple to do and it's a helleva lot cheaper than Nutrisystem or any other diet program.
I actually like the food. Before NS, I would just have a coffee, ladled with creamer for breakfast, eat a nice oversized lunch and probably not eat dinner, but sometimes snack on chips, pretzels, cereal, whatever, while watching TV. This is teaching me to eat small portions throughout the day.
I have always worked really hard to try to be thin, but, have gained 10 lbs over the past few months that will NOT come off. So, I'm using this as a kick-starter to making smarter choices. I look at our metabolism as a fire burning. If you put one big log on a fire that is almost burned out, it will choke it out; however, if you put kindling, or a few small twigs on it, it will build it back up.
Think of your metabolism in the same way. If you eat smaller meals, more frequently, you are feeding your metabolism, but those big meals that restaurants serve and we, in turn, create, at home , those meals will completely stifle your metabolism and leave you feeing tired and lethargic. Keep up the great work everyone.
Hey Nellie, good question. As long as you keep eating small portions, keep your daily calorie count to the same as while you're on the diet and do not return to old bad eating habits like eating junk food or foods high in sugar, drinking soda etc you should not gain weight. This diet is not just made to make you lose weight, it's designed to teach your body to get used to eating less and to teach your brain to be aware of what you're eating all the time — even when you're not dieting.
Bottom line is it's all on you from start to finish whether or not you lose weight and keep it off. Only you can choose what you eat and drink. Choose wisely and you'll surprise yourself in a nice way! Hey Candie, it's great to hear you're doing really well—32lbs in 2 months is awesome! And that you like the diet and you're fired up to maintain it to lose even more is really inspiring.
Come back and give us an update sometime soon, please! Had a very serious health issue and in ICU for 5 days. EVERY physician gave me the same comment—loose weight. I have been on many programs before with little success. Was up late one night and saw Marie O who looked super—so this fat boomer decided to give the program a try.
Have been on program for about 2 months or so. Down from to today. I love the food—of course have some faves, but it works for me and hopefully will continue to on my road to loose another 50 pounds. Hopefully I won't look like a prune but I will certainly be healthier!
Hi Kavitha, thank you for your inquiry. This diet program only ships to United States addresses at present. I'm sorry it is not available internationally but I believe the additional shipping costs would make it very expensive and therefore not attractive to dieters in other countries around the world.
If I may offer some advice: I know that it can take some will power to follow a stricter eating regime, but when you firmly decide for yourself that you will do it because you want to do it, you can surprise yourself at what you are capable of!
I live in Kuwait. How do I get this product would like to know how much it cost to loose 20kg. Hey Marilyn, it's great to hear from you that you're off to such a great start. I agree that adding spices and herbs to the meals can improve the taste and tailor it to what you like to taste even! And yes, yes, yes My husband and I both started this diet, he needs to lose 40 pounds I need to lose ! Our first week he lost 12 pounds and I lost When hungry eat salad is what I tell my husband. He gets more snacks than I do but this to me is a very easy diet to follow.
We planted a garden and makes it more fun to grow your own salads! I think the trick is once you lose your weight to keep it off. But I hope we get to that problem! I talked my husband into doing the diet with me and to tell you the truth, I think it helps him to understand the struggle of sitting next to someone eating foods that you can't have when only one person is on a diet.
No matter what you do in life Hey Liz, Great to hear you're getting on with the diet so well, but gaining 7lbs in just over a week sure sounds strange. My first thought is water retention, which if that's the case could be caused by a sudden change in diet and usually dissipates after several days. It can be caused by increased fiber from the food holding fluid in the digestive tract which is released soon enough as the body gets used to the additional fiber in the diet.
Although it sounds odd, the best way to deal with water retention is to drink MORE water—at least eight or more 8oz glasses per day throughout the day ie not all at once. It helps flush the system and helps with digestion too. If you don't start seeing a drop in weight after another week, my advice is to get in contact with a Nutrisystem counselor and talk it through with them.
They have experts in-house that can help you, so DO make use if that service. You're paying for it as part of the program, after all! Good luck with your progress and I hope things go real well for you.
I can say I love it.. I'm on the Diabetic Plan. In the 4 days I've been on the plan I've gained 7 pounds. Please let me know whyyyyyyyyy I gained? Hey Beth, all comments are published, positive or negative as long as they are helpful in some way.
You're doing the right thing in talking to the counselor over any concerns—they're there to help after all! I'd add that you need to drink lots of water every day.
Not just for this program, but for your health in any case, because it hydrates you and actually helps with healthy digestion and elimination as well as helping to normalize blood pressure.
About 8oz glasses per day is about right. Good luck and best wishes with your diet for a successful and happy outcome!
This will absolutely be a lifesaver for me! I love all these comments and I will be coming back here to read more! I am on my first week of NS This is my 3rd day. I felt really tired yesterday and chatted to the counselor today who added a couple things for me. I have not cheated at all but my blood pressure is going up some now which has me worried.
I saw where the program is under mg Sodium per day which should be ok. I will be talking to them more if this continues to be a problem. This program is helpful to me I am a comfort eater and eat with my computer or TV so I don't even think about how much I eat. This program thinks for me I am on the woman's basic vegetarian plan and have liked everything so far.
I was sent some meat products accidentally in my first shipment but they corrected that quickly and I am being sent other products now. The cost is high Way less expensive than medication, procedures, etc, if your health goes downhill! Thank you for this review and all of the comments that have followed. I am 85 pounds overweight and grieving the murder of my daughter has led me to 30 pounds of weight gain over the last 7 months. I am hopeful that NS will be the answer that I have been looking for to increase my energy, self control and self confidence.
Just started my 6th week of NS, 25 lbs. Now I plan to keep going for 2 more months until our anniversary Cancun vacation. NS has a program that allows me to pick and choose my favorites so I want to enjoy the food I like at smaller portions and learn to snack well.
Hopefully, I'll take better habits with me when I start buying replacement meals and home cooking with a newer portion-controlled mindset.
Nutrisystem works for me. At times, I'm fully aware of my increased energy and motivation. Losing the desire to junk snack at night is a huge improvement.
It is worth the money to spend a few months eating NS to lose weight and change my eating habits. The good news is that I still go out times per week to our favorite bars and restaurants. Love a dirty martini, small appetizer, and seafood or salad combo much more than I did the fatty meals that were NOT worth the money!
Hey Gail, don't feel discouraged—since Feb 15 its only just over 3 weeks and at the recommended rate of weight loss at 2lbs per week, you're actually right on track! I know it's easy to get caught up in the big claims by some of the TV ad featured dieters of 30lbs or more, but the reality is those big numbers take several months to achieve in most cases.
You could and should double that figure inside of two months if you stick with it and stay determined to succeed! I started the NS plan on February I haven't added veggies.
I don't feel super deprived likely because of my few side trips but I can't help but feel that I should have lost more weight. I should probably add that I am 48 and post menopausal — I do work out most days for min either a treadmill or Beach Body videos and I have three labradors who I walk most days they're not strollers! Just feeling a little discouraged but I intend to finish out my second month. Hey RockyRose, it's great to hear you're enjoying the diet and having great success with it.
In my experience, the people who always lost the most weight and kept it off are those that stuck stubbornly to their diet plan while politely but firmly ignoring any conflicting "advice" from friends or family.
Everyone naturally has an opinion and often its the wrong ones that derail people from their weight goals if they listen to and take them to heart. It's always the plan that get results when you stick with it, not those opinions! I've been on Nutrisystem for about two weeks, I'm down ten pounds. I love the program and I love that I'm sticking to it.
I think the food is really good, there are a few items that I don't like so I just don't order them. I hope I have good results with this program. I think the most important thing is making sure I stick to it. You should contact NS customer support for these kind of questions as they'll have the most accurate and correct answers rather than take someone else's opinion whether right or wrong.
Can you drink coffee on Nutrisystem? When starting with the Turbo shakes, is it strictly shakes for the first week or using shake as 1 or 2 meal replacements? Hey Lisa, thanks for the update.
It's always real great to hear from you because you have such a great, positive attitude and you're proof that a can-do attitude brings success! Just wanted to give an update! As for the meals, I think they taste great, all except 1 wasn't to my liking!
I finished half of it and gave the rest to my unpicky dog! You do have to add in vegetables but that is fine I feel fuller! I absolutely love the turbo shakes and the nutricrush shakes wish I could drink those all day long!
Thanks for having this forum! And good luck to everyone! The Nutrisystem program i think is founded in good ideas. However i have a few complaints. The food is mostly bland and has no real flavor. While portioned well, i still felt like i was lacking something I work out about times a week including playing hockey and it left me hungry. However the biggest and most annoying thing that really got on my nerves was after paying for the first month, i came to the determination that it was too expensive to continue.
I'm sorry but that's completely absured! Yes i got a discounted price Which is the reason i would be charged but that's no excuse. Thanks but no thanks.
I'm very upset that they would treat their customers like this Additionally to cancel, i've been on hold And on the phone as i'm typing this waiting to talk to someone for nearly 30 minutes already Are they purposely trying to make it impossible for you to cancel?
Going back to Weight Watchers so i can eat food that tastes like food, and a system that I have had success with in the past. Hey guys, I get it you have differences of opinion and I'm a believer in everyone gets to say their piece. But unless you really have a genuine grievance with Nutrisystem itself, I don't want to read angry or hateful comments or arguments especially over what you see or don't see on TV.
This is my site and while I let a lot of stuff go, I don't want it to turn into a free-for-all mud-throwing match. Any future hateful or angry comments will get deleted. Hey John, congrats on losing 20 lbs by the way. That's the kinda thing I enjoy hearing about! Congrats to Nick S and Matt G too — that's some great going guys! Wow, Martin you're some kinda troll. If you see so much of Marie's face on the network, man you're watching too much TV! As for me, I'm glad Marie's still doing it for Nutrisystem.
God bless her, because it really helped me lose the 20 pounds I needed to lose through my previously bad diet not sitting on my lazy fat butt all day watching TV.
I lost weight and reached a goal. Man, unlike that other guy I'm happy, positive and thankful I found something that worked for me! I have been very pleased with the food personalized my plan selections and the only negative was that I was very gassy and some pretty painful stomach pains for a couple days during my second week. I did experience constipation for the first week and very well could have made a mistake by eating more meals with higher fiber content to combat this which may have created the stomach pain.
I did take GasX which has solved the problem. My advice would be to stay strong, adhere to the plan and drink 8 to 10 16oz bottles of water per day. The results thus far have been amazing and I am well on my way to achieving my goals by the summer. I've only done the first week and I've already dropped Now I'm a big guy, with a lot of weight to lose, but 13 pounds in one week?
They only said I'd lose up to 10 the first month Hey Toni, I get where you're coming from and I say sure, go ahead and eat vegetables.
They are super low in calories but high in nutrients that help the weight loss process. That's as long as they are fresh eaten raw is even better and not out of a can or a packet! As to the hard boiled egg, I'm guessing if you ask Nutrisystem support you CAN and should , they'd say it's outside the plan.
But personally, I'm a great believer in natural foods are always better than junk. So if you're going to slip, it's better to do it with an egg instead of a pack of potato chips or a candy bar! I'm just beginning the Nutrisystem and I love it already. I'm currently on the 4th day of my Turbo 10 but I'm finding it a bit difficult. I had one major question that I couldn't find the answer to anywhere; I think I know what the answer is but I want to confirm it.
While doing the Turbo 10 can I have vegetables and protein when I'm getting hungry? I have been trying to stick whole-heartedly to the Turbo 10 but I have slipped up and had a hard boiled egg considered "powerfuel" and a half a cup of edamame vegetable. Please let me know what you think. I'd appreciate any advice.
Hey Lynette, that's an amazing story, congrats! You're right, it's all about achieving the body size you are meant to be—and can be through getting into the simple habit of right eating and sufficient exercise each day.
Just reading these comments and had to put my 2 cents: Keep going girl, you already lost 5 pounds you can lose another 5 and more. Just don't quit and do believe in yourself! I looked back at your comments and gotta say, your killing it girl woo yeah! Baggy clothes are the coolest by-product of this diet! When I hear folks say they lost this or that pounds, I think to myself, that's cool. That's what we're doing this for. For US not for the bathroom scales!
I love to hear people winning with their diet. I finished 3 months on Nutrisystem just before Christmas after I shrunk from a size 18 to a size 10! All that fat was gone baby and my old clothes all looked like they were made for an elephant. I was so happy I threw a party for my friends to burn my old clothes in the yard and it was so amazing.
It cost me all my meager savings to buy new clothes for this new small size body but I'm the happiest girl on my block for sure! Oh yeah, one month later I'm still the same size and weight. I eat only fresh food that tastes great and drink plain water or herbal tea now.
No more junk or soda and I feel and look totally amazing! I am on day Lost 5 lbs first several days and have not lost anything since. Major plateau and very discouraging. I am going to stick with it another month. New delivery should be today.
I have stuck to the plan. Not understanding how I'm not dropping weight. My breakfast used to be calories. Now I don't go over for the entire day for 1 month? Why am I not losing? Hope someone can please answer me. Hi Dr Cook, Thank you so much for your words of encouragement they are appreciated.
I posted it twice because I thought the first one wouldn't go through because my email address was wrong! Thanks for posting it! I am on day 4 and no soda at all! I haven't cheated once and I feel great! I can't wait to see how much weight I have lost at the end of the week! Hey Lisa, great to hear from you that you're starting with such a positive and determined attitude which is sure to get you to where you want to be. I just saw you posted the same comment twice—I published the first one as you can see but the second is a duplicate and the system won't publish it I have safeguards to stop me accidentally publishing duplicate content to this blog.
Anyway, good luck to you too and I wish you success! Hi, Sorry I just realized my email address was wrong when I sent my first reply. This is the correct one! Hi, First let me began by saying I am 45, 5'9 and weigh lbs. I had weight loss surgery 3 years ago where my heaviest I weighed lbs and my lowest lbs. So after the surgery, 3 years later I have gained back a total of 30 lbs.
I am addicted to McDonalds Cokes, I buy at least a day! Needless to say I am tired of being sluggish, overweight, jittery and grumpy! I knew I needed to first stop the soda period! So I did that and on the same day went to Walmart and purchased 2 of the Homestyle packs so I can try it for 10 days. I just started on NS. I thought that I would have total withdrawals from having quit Soda cold turkey on day 1 but I have only had an occasional headache.
I have had gas also but that is ok. I am not hungry at all thanks to eating the 6 small meals and also that my stomach doesn't hold that much anyways. I do want to say that the food is actually very good at least all the ones I have had so far have been!
I haven't weighed myself yet because I want to be surprised and weigh at the end of the week. This is really easy to follow. I haven't exercised at all but I plan on incorporating it into my schedule. Here is to a New Me in ! I am please with the plan so far.
I lost 8lbs My first week, but I think a lot was fluid from eating so much bad food before. The first days was the hardest but I like the fact that I don't have to cook it and weigh it and count calories and figure all that out. I do not want to have to do a meal plan, I do not have time for that. I can make my family a nice dinner and still have the veggies with them and I heat mine up and we can sit all down together without me having to figure out what can I make for them that I can eat.
I did the QVC deal and got the plan for less than what it would cost me to do smart ones or lean cuisine. This is delivered to my door and for an entire month. I don't even have to shop for it. You can not beat that. The food is not the greatest but what microwave meal is. It is not the worst I have had and I am so excited over this, I feel amazing and look forward to be a long time customer.
I have now lost 8. I love green beans.. I still have 13lbs I am wanting to lose Are you allowed Coffee on Nutrisystem? I use to drink decafe coffee.
I did use truvia and skim milk when I used to drink it.. I do not drink any soda at all Just want to lose the lbs.. Thanks for the encouragement, anything that will help me stay on track. Hey Faye, that was a big drop in weight those first 5 days.
A possible answer is that much of that could have been excess water weight, because believe it or not when you start to drink lots of water the body actually releases excess stored water. It all depends on how much water weight you were carrying to begin with as it can vary a lot between people. But in any case, don't feel discouraged.
It's early days into diet and your body is just balancing itself out. The pounds will continue to fall more steadily as you continue with the plan.
Remember, most expert agree you should expect pounds lost per week on a low calorie diet like Nutrisystem and this is a reasonable average. Stay determined and positive and good luck with achieving your goals. I started the program and the first 5 days I lost 7. Hey Dolly, I'm so glad you're succeeding so amazingly well and have such a positive attitude toward the program.
Yes, I changed the ads since Nutrisystem have started their new promotion for already, so I had to include their new offers in my review so new visitors will get the latest information. Congrats and keep on keeping on! Hi Dr Cook, I read this review a month ago and signed up for the core womens plan.
I can't thank you enough for pointing me at Nutrisystem! I have already lost 14 pounds and ordered my second month. The food is much better than I expected from hearing some of the very negative commenters said about it.
I felt a bit hungry the first few days, but I told myself it was my body telling me it was using up excess fat to make me smaller and lighter. And it really was! After those first few days, I had no hunger issues at all and felt great. Better than great — I have so much energy now that I never had before.
I really appreciate the depth of information you provide here and I noticed you changed the ads and some of the info from Fast 5 to Turbo 10 since I last looked in. That looks real interesting but you know I will stick with my plan because it works for me and that's all I need.
Good luck and best wishes to all the others who are on this diet program! Hey Rebecca, it's always great to hear from folks that are doing this with a positive attitude and real determination to succeed like you guys. All I can say is you're going the right way and just stick with the plan and you'll be wearing even smaller size pants before you know it!
I am one week shy of a month on the program. My fiance and I are doing it together as we have gained weight together over the past two years. We are both in the lbs range. She loves it and finds it easy to stick with.
I have a harder time feeling full, but I am learning to work through that. It is nice to have the food all right there and quick. I can cook, and cook well, however we don't always have the time to cook well. If I got home tired we'd go out. If we hadn't been grocery shopping, we'd go out or grab a quick bag of chips. So having everything quick and easy is a great thing for both of us and makes it easier to behave. The food it hit or miss, but it is generally not THAT bad.
There have only been one or two items like the doughnut that were horrible. Most of the food is pretty good and some of it I absolutely love. I can tell you that my size 26 pants are loose and my size 24's are starting to fit better. My fiance's pants are fitting her better as well. So far, we love it. We buy canned veggies on sale to add to the dinners. The cost is high, but compared to our previous eating out, we are still saving money.
We will definitely continue, probably for 6 months to a year. We have a lot of weight to lose. I hear many saying that this program is not teaching you how to eat right, but it IS.
Portion control is one of my biggest problems. My body is learning the full triggers and eating 6 times a day helps my body process things. Gaining weight off program will happen if I do not keep the portions down and frequent. You cannot go back to eating three large meals a day.
Love the hunger feeling But I have only lost 2. I will give it a couple more days. If I don't lose any more. I will return all their food and want my money back. I hope they don't give me a hard time for that. My goal was to lose 15 lbs. This is my 4th time. It has come a long way from the 80s when you used to have to go to a weekly meeting and talk with a counselor and listen to speeches and pick your food out from racks in a warehouse like setting.
Each time I've done it, I lost successfully except the last year but that was my fault. I only did a 5 day plan and then went whole-hog on the weekends. I'm back on it and now sticking to it on most weekends, not all. It'll just take me more time to lose, but that's fine with me.
I'd rather live and enjoy myself when I go out and not worry about dieting cause I know I'll get back to it when I can. The food now is fantastic compared to what it used to be, especially the frozen.
I don't find much of anything I don't like. And if I do, I just don't order it again. If you are a picky eater to start with, well then, yah, you'll have a hard time with it. So far all I lost was 5 pounds, but its so amazing how different I feel. I don't care what I look like. I care about how I feel! Bending over trying to put shoes on isn't a chore anymore with a fat belly in the way.
Just want to say — this was the easiest, fastest way I ever tried to lose weight! Just as the commercial says "eat the food, lose the weight! As you diet, you begin to relearn how to eat, so I did not even need the transition info. I still buy the shake because they are great mid-morning to squash hunger until lunch.
And the payoff is amazing! I have received so many compliments and queries about the program, and I can't say enough good about it!! I'm 58 years old and 5'2". I have never been one to lose weight very fast and as such, I usually get discouraged and get the ol "I don't care" attitude. Especially after losing quite a bit of weight and then struggling up and down with the same poundage for the past several years. But the convenience of NS has been a life changer for me as it gain me the extra something something I needed to stick it out.
I have currently lost The nice thing about NS, if you don't like a item, just don't order it the next month. My husband says this is the first time he has seen me stick to something for this long. I've got about 30 pounds to go! It's so good to hear from someone that knows the truth and isn't afraid to write it down!
I have to try and be diplomatic when answering some of the worst complainers since this is my site. But it can be frustrating at times when you get people that really just don't get it that they're the ones with the problem, not the diet.
Congrats on going into this with the right attitude and proving to the naysayers that it works It's always good to hear! My mom did the Nutrisystem diet back in the late 80s, after giving birth to me a few years prior, and lost all of her baby weight.
She did it for 3 months. She told me that the first month was "okay" but that by the end of her 2nd month, she had lost almost all of her baby weight but also had so much more energy, which gave her the motivation to start running again. I wish I could post a screen cap of her text saying this so people would know it's real lol. By the end of her 3rd month, she said she had lost ALL of her baby weight plus a few more pounds. She recommended it to me when I started talking about wanting to lose some weight, so we both decided to do it.
She's been on it for a month and has lost 8 lbs. I've been on it for 3 weeks I started a week later so my bf and I could start together— I convinced him after I had already ordered with her , and I've lost 6 lbs.
I am 28 years old, 5'4" and was lbs when I started. This may not sound big at ALL to a lot of you, but trust me, if I wore a tight shirt and let's be honest, I'm 28 so I want to I have a VERY short upper torso so adding just a few tiny extra pounds shows up fast on me.
But I don't see any problem with wanting to look better as long as I'm doing it in a healthy manner I've been exercising and eating all the meals the way they tell you to, and I now weigh ish and feel awesome in both my work clothes and going-out clothes.
An inch off my waist and a few less pounds is all I really needed and that's exactly what I got. I don't need to lose too much more weight so if the weight loss starts declining a little bit, for ME, that's actually a good thing. Obviously, for some others, I can see why they might get frustrated. This diet isn't for everyone, but that's no reason to rag on it.
They'd say things like "UGH It doesn't actually affect our ability to judge it as a whole. I can clearly see that this is exactly what's happening with the food from nutrisystem. They might as well all be the same person writing a different review. Just listen to how they talk.
Yes, the food from nutrisystem is more bland than a steak dinner from Outback oh dear GOD, i bet some of you are already thinking about how "terrible" Outback is instead of understanding my point And to those of you who say "No i'm not expecting gourmet, but I wouldn't even feed this to my dog" I know what point you're trying to make, but these foods are not THAT bad to where a dang dog who eats his own throw up wouldn't eat it.
Not even close, you overly picky eater. And nonetheless, there are starving people out there who would take a frozen salisbury steak without complaining. A point that should be more than taken into consideration! I was eating Chick-Fil-A sandwiches and french fries before this diet, so yeah I felt the change in taste! But if I cared more about the taste of food than losing the weight which thousands and thousands of people have said they've lost the weight , then I'd still be unhappy with my weight!
It's not SO bad to where I can't endure it for a better cause, which is looking and feeling better. I will stay on nutrisystem for my 2nd month and see what happens after that. So sorry for this being so long but I had to say something because reading all the comments from complainers was the most aggravating thing I've seen in months. Hi June, congrats on your success! And getting into the right frame of mind comes from re-learning how to eat the right way so the body doesn't gain weight.
Once the mind has learned the right way to eat, the body does what it's told! I've been using the Nutrisystem diet plan since January of I've lost 48 pounds. I started at about pounds and I was a size 16 and today I'm about pounds and a size The plan works but the issue is that some people don't understand it's not just about the food. It's about portion control and changing your lifestyle to eat more but smaller meals. I've done without their food for quite some time, although I will say that not starting with it wouldn't have worked.
It's just that I prefer to cook my own chicken or fish and I'm cooking for two very hungry men. I needed the food for a while to train myself as I lost my first 15 pounds. The portions get so much easier after the first few weeks and I found myself feeling uncomfortable if I cheated because my body was getting used to healthy eating. I'm in my 50s and this is the first time I have ever found something that worked for me. But all the focus here is on the food and I didn't think that was the biggest challenge.
Thanks so much for the prompt reply! It's sometimes difficult to weed out the legit complaints so thanks for helping clear that up! I agree completely that it's going to take a couple of months anyway to retrain your habits and see some results! I am so excited at the hopes of this working! I have enjoyed everything I've tried so far! I can't wait to continue! Thanks again so much for your time!
Hey Kathi, The complaints about auto shipping revolve mostly around people who signed up for the first month and got the discount, then tried to cancel before the second shipment and got a nasty shock because they didn't read the information on the Nutrisystem homepage about their obligation.
If you intend signing up for more than one month, then you will have no problems canceling anytime after you have received at least 2 monthly shipments from the company. There is a pretty obvious reason Nutrisystem are strict about early cancellation. They're giving a pretty big discount to attract customers to signup for auto-delivery because that way they sell at least a second month of food, which is better for business than just selling a single month's shipment.
Most customers take the time to read the disclaimer and are aware of the obligation. So they either wave the discount and pay full price for the first month then can cancel anytime without penalty or they commit to at least two months and take the discount. When you think about it it's sensible to do that because it usually takes at least two months to see real results from a diet and to train your body to get used to eating less food.
Hope that answers your question. I know this post is rather old but I wondered if I might explore the complaint about NS Customer Service and cancelling autoship. Like many, I'm using NS to learn about portion control, moderation and healthy choices. I've purchased several starter boxes at Walmart but I'd like to "join" for a few months to further my jump start and until I feel I'm ready to go it alone. I hesitate only because of what I've read about the autoship.
I don't mind paying their prices at all, but when I'm ready to stop; I don't think anyone has the right to interfere with that decision. Has anyone heard anything more recently on this subject? Thanks so much for this post Customer service was no help, trying to convince me to take another delivery, are you kidding me!
I've had hormone tests and blood work done and nothing seems amiss so at this point it's a mystery — so now we're into a heatwave and nothing I own fits me anymore.
I am glad that so many women can find success with NS; unfortunately I have to keep searching for mine. I just started the 5 day trial.. I did purchase the D plan for diabetic because this is what was available at Walmart at the time. The prepared foods makes it so much earier and as much as I have read horrible stories on the taste, I have to disagree. Sure the muffin isn't fluffy and the foods are processed but they take the challenge out of calorie counting and preparing.
I so far actually have not had anything I would call awful. It's pretty darn good. Portions may be small but you eat all day on this plan. Also, keep in mind your great food and large portions is why you are now purchasing this product. Going into my 3rd day I recommend this product and will be purchasing more.
I also kicked my exercise routine into gear. The diet was easy and taught me how to budget my eating and to discipline myself so that I went on to lose another 10 lbs the next month without NS just by keeping my good habits and exercise.
I stayed at my target weight for 8 months, but then I fell in love probably 'cause I looked so good: I've recommended it to friends and family and enjoyed watching their success. Hey Lidia, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. But its certainly not "a bunch of crap" as the thousands that managed to get on with just fine will testify to.
Oh boy, where do I start? It's a "D-I-E-T" so the portions are small. What else did you expect? My review clearly states you have the option of adding grocery items to the meals, but really it's not absolutely necessary. To lose weight, you must get into the trend of eating LESS! You simply cannot continue eating all you want and expect to become slim. That's not how it works!
You are wrong about shipping. It is free when you pay full price for the plan, but if you take the discount then it is deducted from any refund if you cancel before taking delivery of at least two months worth of food.
That is also clearly stated. Customer service is great. I'm sorry if you had a bad experience, but did the the counselor "yell" or "pretty much yell"? There's a big difference. I'm guessing you're just venting your frustration here, so making it sound a whole load worse than it really was is normal for folks who didn't get what they wanted or expected.
I published your complaint in the spirit of fairness as everyone's entitled to their opinion. I had high hopes for this program and it's a bunch of crap. Meaning, in order to not stay hungry all day, you will have to add more foods other then veggies and fruits.
They actually say you need 3 power fuels, 2 smart carbs, 4 servings of veggies and so on to feel full. Means you buying a ton of groceries on the side! In addition to low fat or fat free milk for cereal and everything has to be wheat, low fat or fat free, and if family doesn't eat that It adds up fast!
It's included in the cost which means you won't get it back if you return the food. I talked to a counselor before I quit and he pretty much yelled at me and said to add even MORE food to my diet!! I'm trying to lose weight not eat more!
Then when I cancelled, the first rep was insanely rude and hung up on me, refused to tell me how to ship my food back to ensure a proper refund, and then hung up in my face. It's a complicated diet and I don't need the rudeness or my bank acct drained. You said you your problem was "not eating enough" which might have most of the folks reading this thinking you were underweight to start with—and by eating more you'd naturally gain and not lose weight.
Maybe you could clear that part up so we can understand your personal situation better. Hey Suelesh I removed your email to preserve your privacy , A lot of the process for losing weight is mental as it is physical and those foods are a big problem for diabetics, but many still crave them.
To answer your question, according to Nutrisystem: These nutrients help your body digest glucose slowly, and this prevents spikes in blood sugar while keeping you satisfied. Both my husband and I did Nutrisystem for 2 months. I wanted to lose weight and he did it in solidarity — He lost 15 pounds and I can no longer fit into my jeans. Really, I am wider and a few pounds heavier than I was only 2 months ago.
Perhaps it's because my issue was not eating junk or over eating; Mine was not eating enough and I thought by spending the money on the food I would be more inclined to eat properly in regular intervals. I had, like all of us, seen those commercials where overweight women looked so amazing after doing Nutrisystem so you can imagine my dismay when my own body took a turn for the worse after trying it.
I also stepped up my activity and had no problem with the food itself in terms of taste. We live within walking distance of an organic produce store so we had lots of fresh stuff to dress the food up with.
Good luck to those who give it a shot — it did not work for me, but that certainly doesn't mean it won't for you. I just started on nutrisystem d,its not that bad,but I cant understand why they have cake, cookies and candy bars in it, can anyone tell me why?
Hi Camilla, I'm so glad you're doing well on the diet and the gas problem was short-lived for you. The way to real success with this program comes after you complete it and return to normal meals: You need to keep eating healthily and in small portions and never return to eating junk food or you'll just put all the weight back that you lost.
You can do it, I'm sure! Hi, I'm on day 10 started with fast5 and lost 6 so far, so real pleased. I got gas on day 2 it lasted 2 days then vanished and hasnt come back. I admit I was thinking on quitting if it hadnt of stopped when it did.
I wasn't like the other commenter Cindy having home cooked food before. I ate a load of junk always Mcdonalds or pizza or takeout so my diet wasnt ever good. The food on Nutrisystem is pretty good so I was a bit shocked at the gas but now its gone, I'm real happy with the diet so far.
I love the shakes! Hey Cindy, good to hear you and your husband are doing great with the weight coming off, but not so good to hear you have the gas problem that some folks get. Is your husband getting the same problem? I hear of it happening when folks try Nutrisystem instead of eating healthy home cooked meals, so its likely down to the big adjustment the body needs to make with a very different menu it's not used to. You're accustomed to healthy meals that I assume you cook with all fresh ingredients and now your eating processed foods—it's a big change in diet that can be problematic for some folks.
If the problem persists I'd recommend you talk to customer support and even your doctor if the pain is bad. I am on my 4th day of the fast 5. I have lost 2 lbs so far, my husband 7lbs. I understand that our metabolisms are different. Before NS I cooked very healthy, clean meals but portion size and eating too few meals a day left us both about 20 lbs over what we wanted to be. We both work out regularly so we felt that learning to eat tegular small meals would be worth a try.
Now for my problem. I have been bloated and have horrible gas and sm extremely uncomfortable every hour if the day since starting NS. Anyone have advice for me? I saw a response that said that the person was obviously not used to healthy food. Ideally, a meal replacement shake that is around calories will give you plenty of leeway to add in other ingredients, instead of just taking it with water. And if you have a very hefty weight goal and therefore need to take the shake with just water, it will help you get to your goal weight faster.
Though many companies add sugar into their shakes to make them taste good, this is not an ingredient you want in a meal replacement shake. Ideally, the less sugar the better. Sugar is not only bad for your health but it can greatly contribute to weight gain. When you eat a lot of sugar it raises the insulin levels in your blood, which first shuts down your fat burning processes and then causes that excess sugar to be converted into fat and stored in your body. After this process occurs, even more goes wrong!
Sugar is also void of nutrients and highly addictive. On another note, artificial sweeteners act much like regular sugar in your body, and many are not made from natural ingredients but instead are chemicals. There is much controversy surrounding the use of chemical sweeteners and how they may affect your health. It is best to steer clear of them completely.
Only choose meal replacement shakes with no to very low sugar from only natural sugar alternatives like Stevia. When you have higher cholesterol, you are at a bigger risk for having a heart attack or stroke.
For this reason, it is highly recommended that you follow a low cholesterol diet, so when looking for a meal replacement shake, it is best to choose one that has no cholesterol at all. Of course, the lower the amount, the better. Using a meal replacement shake to replace a meal that would have contained animal protein is a great way to help lower your cholesterol in general. But you have to make sure you have the right type of diet shake as they contain varying amounts of cholesterol.
Shakes that contain whey protein often contain cholesterol, whereas shakes made from plant proteins do not and are much healthier for you. Diet shake reviews reveal that plant—based meal replacement shakes are on the rise with more people being interested in their overall health benefits.
When it comes to meal replacement shakes, low fat is best, because it contributes to the overall amount of calories in the shake. But fat is not bad for you, it just depends on the type of fat. The two main types of fat are saturated and unsaturated, and saturated is the one you want to stay away from. Saturated fat can stick to the sides of your arteries, clogging them and leading to high blood pressure.
In general, most saturated fats come from animal sources, whereas most unsaturated fats come from vegetable sources — another reason to choose a plant-based protein powder over a whey-based one.
Hydrogenated or trans fats are another type of fat to stay away from, as they are considered the worst type for your health. This type of manufactured fat is used in processed foods, and you should definitely stay away from it in your meal replacement shakes. Trans fats raise the risk of heart disease by raising levels of bad LDL cholesterol and lowering levels of good HDL cholesterol in the blood. There are two types of carbs: Simple carbs are the bad carbs that you want to try to stay away from.
They are digested and absorbed more quickly and easily than complex carbs, and offer little to no nutritional value. They are higher in sugar, and lower in fiber, making them contribute to weight gain. Simple carbohydrates to limit in your diet include soda, candy, artificial syrups, sugar, white rice, white bread, and white paste, pastries and desserts.
In contrast, complex carbs include whole grain breads and cereals, beans, peas, lentils, peanuts, potatoes and corn. These foods keep you full for longer due to the high amount of fiber, which is necessary for proper body functioning and also weight loss. Those looking to lose weight should look for a meal replacement shake with a good amount of fiber, at least 5g, and a low amount of overall carbs, somewhere between g. Diet shake reviews showed that those that followed this strategy had the most success overall.
Fruits, vegetables and dairy, though technically simple carbohydrates, act like complex carbs because of the high fiber content, so should be consumed daily. Found mainly in whole grains, vegetables, fruits and legumes, dietary fiber helps keep your body regular, also helping it remove toxins by relieving constipation. Fiber normalizes bowl movements and helps to maintain bowel health. Since high-fiber foods are more filling than low-fiber ones, fiber helps control weight by helping you eat less and stay full and satisfied for longer after eating.
High fiber foods also tend to have less calories, therefore also contributing to weight loss. Fiber also has many health benefits including helping to lower cholesterol levels, and control blood sugar levels. Finding a meal replacement shake with a good amount of fiber at least 5g is a great way to ensure you get the necessary amount you need each day. A good recommendation for the amount of fiber you should get in total is 25 grams for women up to age 50 and 21 grams for woman 51 and older.
For men, 38 grams a day up to age 50 or 30 grams a day 51 and older is best. Proteins are long chains of amino acids that are absolutely essential for a healthy diet. Without enough varied protein sources in your diet, you may become deficient in some amino acids. The result of this could include low energy, inability to build muscle, trouble concentrating, mood problems, unstable blood sugar levels, and trouble maintaining or losing weight.
Protein is necessary in order to help repair the damage to muscle tissue that happens when building muscle in the body. This is why it is recommended to consume a high protein diet shake before or after physical activity, and the diet shake reviews we looked at proved that doing this led to great results. Protein also helps you manage your weight by making you feel full and preventing overeating. Compared to carbohydrates or fats, high protein foods give you increased satiety.
Meal replacement shakes are a convenient and effective way to get the protein that you need each day in order to help you stay healthy, lose weight and get in shape.
Look for a diet shake that has g of protein, in order for it to be enough to boost metabolism in the body and help you lose pounds. Probiotics — or healthy bacteria that your gut needs in order to perform optimally and keep you healthy — are not a common ingredient in meal replacement shakes, however the best shakes will include them.
